Origin
Located in the middle of the Poitou region the stud has 160 hectares and around sixty broodmares are lodged throughout the year.
Haras du Berlais grounds are “grounds of tradition” this was awarded during the Universal Exposition in Paris because of the grassland quality.
ln the beginning Berlais livestock farming was dedicated to “Mules Poitevines” (large mules from the Poitou region). There were forty breeding mules and the young stock was mainly sold in the Mediterranean countries.
They were known for their robustness, agility and gentle character. Now just two remain as a memory of times gone by.
We first came to prominence in the racing world through our Arabian horses. Our first broodmare NEFTA produced JAFFA du BERLAIS, POM du BERLAIS. These were the mothers of the stallions NJEWMAN, NUITES ST GEORGES, CHAIKH MAN, TORNADO de SYRAH.
Our first English thoroughbred was the stallion GALANT VERT owned by Baron Guy de Rothschild.
